4 years ago, when the Falcons were the featured team on HBO’s Hard Knocks, safety Ricardo Allen received the dreaded training camp call to meet with GM Thomas Dimitroff and then head coach Mike Smith to learn he was cut while cameras rolled.
Instead of giving up and succumbing to the embarrassment of getting axed on national TV, Allen stayed on his grind and eventually stuck with Atlanta and has established himself as their stating strong safety. Today, he signed a new 3-year, $19.5 million contract extension.
Congrats to Allen for using the chip on his shoulder from his Hard Knocks moment as motivation instead of hiding under a rock. Here he is getting the bad news in 2014.
