In the aftermath of LeBron James ‘The Decision’ to leave the Cavs for the Heat, images of Cleveland fans burning LeBron James jerseys in the streets went viral. Even though many disagreed with fans taking the torch to James’ jerseys, the visceral reaction was a product of an emotional connection formed from watching him play for 8 seasons.
Following the Celtics finalizing a deal to trade the #1 pick in the upcoming draft to Philadelphia – presumed to be Markelle Fultz from Washington – one Celts fans was left with a now useless, pre-ordered Fultz jersey.
He decided the best course of action wasn’t to put it on EBay, but rather to burn it. It seems a little over the top since Fultz never played a minute for Boston, but no one ever accused fans of being rational.
With Danny Ainge poised to make plenty of deals this offseason, it’s probably best to wait until the contract is signed before investing in more jerseys.
Not only can you buy a Markelle Fultz Celtics jersey before the draft, you can apparently burn one as well ?? (?:GreenRunsDeep/IG) pic.twitter.com/BYZteLA3dJ
