Last Friday, ESPN released a bombshell article alleging that Arizona head basketball coach Sean Miller was picked up on FBI wiretaps discussing a $100,000 payment to secure the recruitment of star freshman Deandre Ayton with agent runner Christian Dawkins.
After certain aspects regarding the timeline presented in the ESPN story were called into question over the weekend, today Miller appeared at a press conference for the first time since the news broke and vehemently denied all of the allegations.
Miller said he has never paid any prospect, or arranged payment for any recruit to attend Arizona. He specifically mentioned Ayton. Miller added that he did speak with Dawkins, but only after Ayton had committed. He also called the ESPN story as ‘completely false’ and criticized the larger media’s willingness to accept it.
Miller ended by saying he will coach Arizona in the Pac-12 Tournament. Some people thought this would be a resignation, it ended up with Miller drawing a line in the sand.
