EuFala High School suffered a crushing one-point overtime loss in the Alabama 5A state basketball championship, but in the postgame press conference Senior point guard Terrell Jones put everything in perspective with a moving speech about his love for head coach Michael Smith, and the lessons that Smith had taught him. The kind words understandably brought Coach Smith – and most watching – to tears.
High school sports is about more than wins and losses, it’s about raising young men. Coach Smith did a hell of a job with Terrell Jones. Keep a tissue handy for this.
In his final high school basketball game, Terrell Jones (@itstkadee) scored 20 pts. and fouled out late in the 4th. Eufaula lost the state championship by one point, but this kid left it all out on the court. Not a dry eye in the room after what he said at the podium. @EufaulaCS pic.twitter.com/KRfg3UML2X
