Doug Gottlieb in for Colin:

The UCLA loss perfectly sums up Texas A&M football

UCLA came back from 34 down in the second half to beat Texas A&M in an all-time thriller of a college football game. The loss was disappointing, but Doug thinks it sums up what A&M is as a football program.

The Aggies seemingly always have top recruiting classes, filled with NFL talent, but it never translates to the win column. Most years, they start the year strong and end up fizzling out by the end. Last night, it all happened in one game.

LaVar Ball is ruining LaMelo Ball

Last week, LaMelo Ball announced he will be releasing his own signature sneaker, and many immediately pointed out that by releasing the shoe, LaMelo likely jeopardized his NCAA eligibility. In an interview, LaVar Ball said he isn’t concerned about the NCAA, and refuses to allow them to tell him what to do.

Doug thinks LaVar is planning for LaMelo to bypass the college basketball for a year in the G-League, before entering the draft, which would be a huge mistake.

He sees LaMelo as a borderline talent to begin with, at best, whose growth as a player has been stunted by his father’s poor coaching, and will be further harmed by foregoing a year of college in favor of a year in the NBA minor leagues.

By going this route, LaVar isn’t doing what’s best for his son, he’s doing what’s best for himself.
