The Lakers clean house.
During the today’s show, the Lakers announced a front office house cleaning. Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak are out. Magic Johnson is in as President of Basketball Operations. Colin thinks Luol Deng’s horrendous contract was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Kupchak.
The Lakers are saddled with bad contracts and have no clear-cut superstar on their roster. The CBA rules make it impossible to get of a contract like Deng’s. The Lakers are stuck and it won’t be getting better any time soon.
“The Lakers are stuck. They are in the mud. They’ve got two contracts – Mozgov, Deng – they can’t get out of. That Luol Deng contract, $72 million, 4 years, is the killer for Mitch Kupchak. I like him. That’s a bad contract.”
The Celtics need to deal for Jimmy Butler
There are a host of NBA trade rumors floating around, but there’s only one deal Colin thinks absolutely needs to get done, Jimmy Butler to Boston. The Celtics tried, and failed, to make significant moves with a stack of draft picks last year, and still have plenty of assets.
This move may not beat the Cavs this year, but it instantly makes them the second-best team in the East. It gives them two A players in Thomas and Butler, a B player in Horford, and an A coach in Brad Stevens. Get it done, Danny.
“Jimmy Butler to the Celtics. I would give up a number one pick. I would give up Marcus Smart, Kelly Olynyk. Whatever you need to get that done.”
