Running an NFL franchise isn’t as hard as the Browns make it look
The Browns fired Executive VP of Football Operations, Sashi Brown, after an 0-12 start to the 2017 season, and only one win last season. This means it’s time for yet another front office overhaul for Cleveland, who hasn’t had a franchise quarterback since Vinny Testaverde.
Colin is the first to admit that running an NFL franchise isn’t easy, but if someone just used mock drafts and coin flips to make decisions they wouldn’t do better than Cleveland has done. The good news is the Browns are only 2 to 3 rebuilds away from contending for a playoff spot.
There’s no end in sight for the biggest dumpster fire in professional sports.
NFL players don’t need to be lectured about the risks of playing football
The Bengals and Steelers held their latest AFC North UFC fight which saw numerous flags, multiple suspendable hits, and a scary injury to Pittsburgh linebacker Ryan Shazier. The game renewed the outrage from those that say football poses serious long term health risks for players, but Colin thinks people need to stop lecturing NFL players about the risks of CTE and injury like they’re incapable of understanding.
The NFL has the highest percentage of players with college degrees of any major professional sports league, and its players understand the risks brain damage, and the potential that a catastrophic injury like Shazier’s can happen at anytime. They also understand there are also immense benefits that playing in the NFL affords them, and they are willing to take the risk.
The NFL isn’t for everyone, but its players see the risks up close every week and know them better than anyone.
