Mike Trout’s mega-deal guarantees his irrelevance
Today news broke that the Angels and perennial MVP candidate Mike Trout agreed to a 12-year, $430 million deal, continuing the trend of star players signing long-term mega deals for obscene amounts of money.
Colin thinks these decade plus mega deals are bad for the game because it guarantees teams won’t be able ot build due to the massive financial commitment to one player, and always get stuck paying huge money for less production on the back end of the deal. Mike Trout is one of the best players in baseball, but he’s irrelevant on the overall sports landscape because he’s never won anything. This deal continues he’ll continue the second half of his career putting up huge numbers and not mattering.
