Kyrie Irving is making a career-defining mistake

The news of Kyrie Irving’s trade demands has dominated headlines since the news broke over the weekend. Colin thinks Kyrie is making a big mistake by leaving LeBron and will be less successful wherever he goes next.

He also thinks that the long-term impact on the perception of LeBron and Kyrie after the dust has settled form the fallout will be decidedly different. For LeBron – who has already been through “The Decision,” “Coming Home,” and multiple other career dramas – this Irving blowup will only register as footnote in the story of his career.

For Irving, it’s the defining moment of his career. Everything he does from this point forward will be measured against the success he enjoyed with LeBron in Cleveland. The odds that he’ll be as successful, and relevant, at his next stop are between slim and none.

“This is going to be a career defining mistake by Kyrie Irving.”

The Big Ten is the best college football conference

The SEC has gone unchallenged as the top college football conference for more than a decade, or if you ask an SEC fan, forever. But, this year Colin is ready to crown a new conference king.

Today, he said this is the year the Big Ten overtakes the SEC as the top conference. The reason? Coaching.

The Big Ten has a stable of elite coaches, led by Urban Meyer, James Franklin, and the biggest rock star in the game, Jim Harbaugh. All have shown an ability to recruit nationally, and have lessened the geographical advantages the SEC has traditionally enjoyed.

Big Ten schools are paying big money for elite coaching and it has paid huge dividends in terms of relevancy since its low point five years ago. Even Lovie Smith at bottom feeder Illinois has been to a Super Bowl with the Bears. Ask Rex Grossman.

The SEC, on the other hand, has been propped up by the success of Nick Saban and Alabama, but aside from St. Nick, it’s full of gym coaches that haven’t sniffed winning anything. Who’s the second-best coach in the SEC, Kevin Sumlin? He’s a bad start away from getting canned. It’s definitely not Hugh Freeze.

“The Big Ten, right now, is the best conference. It’s got the best coaches.”
