Jared Goff is way more than a Sean McVay system QB
Jared Goff and the Rams lit up the Vikings for 465 yards passing and 5 TD’s Thursday Night, and is among the NFL leaders in almost every statistical passing category, but Colin doesn’t think Goff is getting enough credit for his own success.
Sean McVay has clearly established himself as a visionary offensive mind, but when it comes to Goff he shouldn’t get all the credit. Goff made throws against the Vikings that only a handful of quarterbacks ever can make. He’s been seen as a recovered bust because he struggled as a rookie playing in Jeff Fisher’s high school offense, and looked bad on Hard Knocks, but he’s just as responsible for McVay’s offense looking unstoppable as McVay is for him developing into a Top QB.
The strip sack is the new QB kill shot
NFL fans and media have been beating the straw man that is the new roughing the passer rule that prevents defensive players from landing on the quarterback with their full body weight, but Colin thinks it’s time for everyone to stop complaining and adapt with the times.
Clay Matthews has become the posterchild for the case against new rule after getting flagged with borderline calls in the last two weeks, but he needs to stop trying to deliver a kill shot hit to the quarterback and start trying to strip the ball like Von Miller and Khalil Mack. Both Mack and Miller have avoided the new rule because they’re targeting the ball as much as the body. In today’s NFL the strip sack is the new QB kill shot. It’s better to get with the times than keep complaining about the rule.
