Gottlieb: The first reaction to the Ezekiel Elliott suspension shouldn’t be about football

Doug Gottlieb in for Colin:

The first reaction to the Ezekiel Elliott suspension shouldn’t be about football

The NFL suspended Ezekiel Elliot for six games over domestic violence allegations involving his ex-girlfriend, and an incident at a St. Patrick’s Day when he pulled down a woman’s shirt and exposed her breast.

Even though Elliott was never criminally charged for the alleged conduct, the NFL found enough evidence to hand down the six game suspension. Not surprisingly, the first reaction by many flew past the findings that show Elliott may have abused his girlfriend, to analyzing how his suspension would affect the Cowboys season or their fantasy team.

It’s unfortunate,  but not surprising.

“Our immediate reaction shouldn’t be, ‘There goes my Fantasy Football team.’”

Sammy Watkins will be better with the Rams than with Rex

The Rams pulled off a surprising trade today when they acquired wide receiver Sammy Watkins from the Bills. Watkins hasn’t lived up to expectations after being picked 4th overall in the 2014 draft, and has proven to be injury prone during his time in the NFL, but has also flashed top level playmaking ability, albeit inconsistently.

Gottlieb thinks it’s worth the roll of the dice for the Rams, who add another explosive threat to their receiving corp as they continue to overhaul their identity under 31-year old rookie head coach Sean McVay. Also, Watkins will be motivated playing in a contract year.

At least the organization has finally realized they aren’t going to win the battle for L.A. by running the “high school offense” they ran last year under Jeff Fisher.
