Gottlieb in for Colin:
One-and-Dones Don’t Translate to Titles
Despite all the hype and massive preseason expectations, Duke lost to Michigan State in the Elite 8 yesterday, coming up short of the Final Four. The Blue Devils and their trio of NBA Lottery picks were knocked out by a Michigan State team stacked with upperclassmen and led by junior point guard Cassius Winston. The dagger shot coming from red shirt senior Nick Goings, over Williamson.
Today, Doug pointed out that none of the the Final Four teams (Texas Tech, Virginia, Auburn and Michigan State) have one-and-dones, and that one-and-done factories like Kentucky and Duke haven’t dominated like everyone thought since fully embracing the one-and-done program model. Each team does have a title with one year players, but two in 15 years is far from dominant.
