Gottlieb in for Colin:
Colin is jumping the gun with his Ben Simmons conversion
Colin had a come to Jesus moment earlier this week when he proclaimed that Ben Simmons is poised to take over the mantle from LeBron as the the league’s next transcendent player. Gottlieb thinks Colin is way ahead of himself.
Doug thinks Simmons is a fantastic talent, and was unwavering in saying he was the best one and done ever coming out of college, but he thinks Joel Embiid has more star potential and is a more unique talent than Simmons. He’s also more marketable. Neither, at this point, however, are close to LeBron’s class.
Baker Mayfield tanking his Chargers interview is a red flag
Baker Mayfield recently admitted that he showed up to an interview with the Chargers and hadn’t spent much time studying their playbook ahead of time. Mayfield said that he was prioritizing learning playbooks based on teams picking higher in the draft, and because he has “a lot on his plate.”
Doug thinks tanking the interview is another red flag for Mayfield because it shows he just doesn’t get it. Even San Diego isn’t going to draft him, they can still tell other teams that might that he was unprofessional and immature. The circle of NFL execs is a small one and they talk often. It’s just common sense.
