Doug Gottlieb in for Colin:
Dak deserves more of the blame in Dallas
The Cowboys will miss out on the playoffs after a year where just about everything went wrong. Many have offered excuses for Dallas’ struggles, from Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension, to aging skill players, but Doug wonders why more people aren’t pointing a finger at Dak Prescott.
Prescott is a fan and media favorite after his improbable rookie year, but his sophomore year has seen many of his weaknesses exposed, including his limitations as a pure pocket passer. Doug believes it’s more than fair that he gets some of the blame, and doesn’t think it’s a guarantee he develops into a viable long term franchise quarterback.
Nothing about the Rockets says championship contender
The Rockets coughed up a 26-point lead to the Celtics last night, and ended up losing thanks to the meltdown. Houston has been a trendy early season pick as the most likely team to unseat the Warriors in the West, if it can be done, but Doug doesn’t see it.
He does see stars – James Harden and Chris Paul – and a coach in Mike D’Antoni who have never won in big in the playoffs, and even though Houston is an entertaining watch and will win plenty of games in the regular season, they don’t play anywhere close to championship level defense.
The Rockets are a hot stock that Doug isn’t buying.
