Brad Stevens got Dwane Casey fired

Dwane Casey was named coach of the year by his fellow NBA coaches this week, but still got his pink slip from the Raptors today after getting swept in the second round of the playoffs by the LeBron and the Cavs.

Colin thinks Boston head coach Brad Stevens had as much to do with the Raptors firing Casey as anything that happened on the court. He believes NBA franchises see how Stevens has led an undermanned Celtics squad to the Eastern Conference Finals and wonder why they don’t have a coach who can do the same. Compared to Stevens, Casey is just average. He won’t be the last coach to get canned for falling short when compared to Stevens.

The playoffs have damaged Kyrie Irving’s reputation

Kyrie Irving left the Cavs to be the man in Boston, but the Cavs and Celtics are both in the Eastern Conference Finals without him. Colin thinks Irving is gaining a reputation as injury prone, and the fact that his current and former teams are excelling without him in the playoffs has caused his reputation to take a hit. Irving is immensely talented, but it’s not clear he’s cut out to be ‘the man’ for a franchise.
