Proposed 16-team NBA Playoff format only makes sense if LeBron heads West
Over All-Star Weekend, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said the league is looking into a possible shift in the playoff format from the current Eastern and Western Conference system to seeding the top 16 teams regardless of conference.
The idea is popular in the NBA media, but Colin thinks the travel for East vs. West series would be a nightmare, and the early round matchups aren’t any more compelling than the current ones. The only reason it would be a viable option is if LeBron left for a Western Conference team, the league could avoid having to sell unhappy broadcast and advertising partners on weak Eastern Conference series no one will want to watch.
LeBron is more than an athlete, he’s the American Dream
LeBron was at the center of a media firestorm after he made comments during a web segment about President Trump, which were followed by conservative host Laura Ingraham telling him to ‘shut up and dribble.’
Colin thinks LeBron has long since crossed over the line from ‘just an athlete’ to cultural icon, and when hearing speeches about what it ‘means’ to be an American, there isn’t any current pop culture figure who is a better representation of the American Dream.
