Bama head coach Nick Saban just announced that four-star outside Linebacker VanDarius Cowan has been dismissed from the Crimson Tide team for violating team rules:
“VanDarius has been dismissed from the team and is no longer a part of our football program due to a violation of team rules. Each of us has a responsibility to represent The University of Alabama in a first-class way, and failure to meet those standards can’t be tolerated. We wish VanDarius the very best in the future.”
Cowan, a 6’4” linebacker – rated #4 OLB by Max Preps – was charged with misdemeanor assault for his role in a Tuscaloosa bar fight, last month.
You know your program is rolling when you can afford to make an example of a 4-star recruit before he ever takes the field in an actual game. Saban has dealt with plenty of off field headaches during his run in Tuscaloosa, but sending a top four-star recruit packing before he ever takes the field is a one way to send a message that it’s going to be different now.
