The Boston Marathon is always full of inspirational stories, but one especially stood out during yesterday’s 122nd edition of the race because of what it represented.

Micah Herndon is an ex-Marine who decided to run Boston to honor three fallen soldiers who died during a 2010 bombing in Afghanistan. Herndon was the lone survivor of the blast. As he approached the finish line, Herndon collapsed from exhaustion, but summoned the strength to crawl to the finish. He later said he wouldn’t quit because of who he was running for.

This is so much more than just finishing a race.
