A 32-year old soldier is literally the luckiest man on Earth today, after miraculously surviving a fall into a 300-foot active Kilauea caldera volcano while vacationing in Hawaii.

According to NBC News, the guy fell into the volcano after making the questionable decision to a scale a metal barrier meant to prevent visitors from taking the plunge to a fiery death. In the life equivalent of winning the Powerball, the fall guy landed on a ledge 70-feet below the rim instead of falling the full 300 feet into molten lava. He was rescued 2 1/2 hours later and sustained non-life threatening injuries.

We’ll chalk it up to good karma for military service. Watch this news report on the luckiest man alive.
