When it comes to sports conspiracy theories, there is no event that captures the imagination of the tin foil hat crowd like the NBA Draft Lottery. The Knicks 1985 Patrick Ewing lottery win is still steeped in frozen envelope controversy to this day, and a leaked practice rehearsal video of last night’s lottery selection sent lottery conspiracy theorists into overdrive before the actual announcements, last night.

The video showed a dry run of pick announcements which declared Phoenix the winner of the #1 pick, followed by the Mavs, Bulls and Cavs in slots 2-4. This, of course, wasn’t the actual order of the actual picks when they were later announced. So no secret NBA Illuminati evidence here.

Knicks fans probably wish there was a frozen envelope right about now, though.

FWIW – just caught the ESPN rehearsal for tonight’s NBA draft lottery. Rachel Nichols and Mark Tatum announced Phx as the winner. Hopefully this isn’t a sign of what’s to come.
