In 2019, Jeff Bezos is the richest man in the world with an estimated net worth of $135 billion, thanks to his brainchild Amazon becoming the leading driver of commerce on the planet. Back in 1997, however, Bezos was just a hustling entrepreneur trying to sell books with his small startup website in the fledgling days of the internet.

In a ’97 interview, an exponentially nerdier version of Bezos discusses what led him to leave his job at a hedge fund and start the online book store. He also touches on his plans to expand into selling other things in the future. That seems to have worked out.

Everything starts with a vision, and one thing that is clear from this Q & A is that Bezos definitely had that. He hits the nail on the head about what the internet would become over the next 20 years and it clearly paid off.
