The NBA rumor mill has not stopped buzzing since the offseason has started. Whether it’s talks about LeBron going “ring chasing”, or Kawhi Leonard wanting to make a move out west, or this Thursday’s NBA Draft.
Veteran L.A. Times NBA Reporter Dan Woike joined The Herd to talk about the potential outcomes of the Kawhi Leonard saga, and also looked at some of the top prospects in this Thursday’s draft.
On the topic of Leonard, Woike agreed with Colin that the Spurs have no choice but to deal Leonard instead of risking losing him and getting nothing in free agency.
“The NBA allows the players to do this, and teams are penalized when they don’t kind of deal with these requests, because they know in a year they could lose them for nothing.”
When it comes to Thursday’s draft, Woike isn’t sold on the superstar potential of 19-year old Euro phenom Luka Doncic, who has been in the discussion to go first overall. He thinks the massively hyped Euroleague MVP doesn’t pop athletically, and could struggle in his transition to the NBA due to his lack of NBA speed and athletic ability.
