Philip Rivers Would Be a Wildly Unconventional Choice for the Bills Job

There are reports that the Buffalo Bills have interviewed recently un-retired QB Philip Rivers for their open head coaching vacancy. Stugotz and Company try to determine how much input QB Josh Allen has in their coaching search and whether hiring Rivers, with zero coaching experience outside of high school, is the type of unconventional move they need to make if they want to get over the hump.

John “Stugotz” Weiner: “The last person to be hired as a full-time NFL head coach without any prior college or pro coaching experience, Norm Van Brocklin. The Dutchman. 1961… In what world does Josh Allen, who I believe signed off on the firing of Sean McDermott, whose win percentage, 66.2%, is 15th all-time in NFL history among qualified coaches? Better than (Bill) Belichick, (Bill) Parcells, (Bill) Walsh, Tom Landry, better than all those guys…and the guy he's attracted to has done none of that and is a guy who was playing quarterback for the Colts a couple of weeks ago.”
