Kevin Durant erased the stigma that he couldn’t win a title when he got his ring as a part of the Warriors juggernaut that rolled through LeBron James and Cleveland in the Finals. Since his win over LeBron it’s become trendy for fans and the NBA media to say that Durant has surpassed James as the league’s best player.
Today in The Herd, Colin explained that LeBron is still the best player in the NBA over Durant, and it’s not close. Aside from LeBron coming off one of the best months in one of the best seasons of his career in year 15, Colin pointed out that Golden State is only 5-8 without Steph Curry in the lineup this year, and just got run off the floor by the Pacers. There’s nothing that indicates that a Durant-led, Steph-less Dubs would be capable of beating the Rockets in the playoffs, this year.
The reality is that Curry makes the Warriors go, not Durant, and at no point does KD ever feel the burden of going into every game knowing he has to carry the team to get a win. LeBron does it every single night.
Don’t forget, the Warriors won 73 regular season games the year BEFORE KD signed. How can he be the best player in the league if he’s not even the most important player on his own team?
