During today’s show, the massive news broke that Kawhi Leonard wants a trade out of San Antonio, with the Lakers at the top of his destination wish list. Colin reacted to the news as it came down, and thinks it’s another great sign for Laker fans who are eager to land LeBron James.
Leonard is essentially the perfect teammate for LeBron. He’s an elite defender, athletic, and a scorer who doesn’t dominate the ball. He’s also a seasoned playoff vet who has already won titles. The Lakers are already considered the frontrunners for LeBron, and landing Leonard would all but lock him up.
Colin thinks Leonard’s strategy to force his way out of San Antonio is a brilliant move. Although he’s under contract, he can still control the trade talks by making it clear he’ll only sign a long-term deal in L.A. Once that’s been established, no other team will want to touch him, and San Antonio’s hand will have been forced.
It’s all happening. The Lakers have all the momentum in a potentially league reshaping NBA offseason. Colin talked about the possibility of James, Leonard and Paul George all joining forces in purple and gold to create the next superteam.
