RadioShack has always been known as the place to buy overpriced, crappy electronics, but on January 24th, 1988, the Aberdeen, Washington RadioShack was the center of the music universe.
Someone just released a video of one of Nirvana’s first shows at the massively unpopular retail chain in 1988, and it’s a far cry from playing a sold out Wembley Stadium.
The video is pre-Dave Grohl, and the stage is the space in front of the television wall, but Cobain treats it like he’s playing the encore at Lollapalooza. RadioShack courteously provided blinking traffic lights for stage effects.
Everyone gets their start somewhere. This is where Nirvana got theirs. Rock history at a RadioShack. Who knew?
