The Blue Jackets find themselves down 0-2 to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In the final minute of last night’s 4-1 loss, Columbus forward Matt Calvert had enough and started headhunting.
He stalked Pittsburgh’s Tom Kühnhackl and broke his stick across the German’s back with a ruthless cheap shot. Calvert apparently mistook the end of the game for last call at the local pool hall.
He circled back and finished off Kühnhackl with a nasty check to the ice, this time sans weapon. He was given a two-minute penalty for the assault, but the game only had a minute to go.
Calvert didn’t apologize for any of it, instead he trash talked the Penguins as he was leaving the ice.
