Vin Scully won’t be announcing any games during this Dodgers World Series appearance this year, despite legions of fans begging him to do it. Even though he won’t be behind the mic for the Series, he agreed to address the crowd and throw out the first pitch before Game 2. It didn’t disappoint.
Scully was on his game and delivered address that would bring even the most hardened long-time Dodger fan to the verge of tears, or standing in a puddle of them. He talked to the packed house with the ease of someone telling a story from the easy chair in their living room.
Scully was also scheduled to throw out the first pitch, but instead used his pull to call in Dodger legend Fernando Valenzuela to do the honors. Before he walked off, he had the crowd join him in delivering his signature phrase, ‘It’s time for Dodger baseball!’
Every thing about this is beyond perfect. There will never be another Vin Scully. No, you’re the one who’s crying.
Vin Scully is a national treasure.
