Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is under fire after a 2013 video of him making racial comments to a white fan while leaving the Warwick Melrose Hotel in Dallas surfaced, today.
Jones recorded the video as a message to the fiancee of the fan recording the video. Jones jokes:
“Jennifer, congratulations on the wedding. Now, you know he’s with a black girl tonight, don’t you?”
According to TheBlast, who broke the story, the fan for whom Jones recorded the video was white. An African American man appears during the video, and laughs while greeting Jones.
The video arrives on the heels of Texans owner Bob McNair’s “inmates” reference, and a in a season that has seen Jones established himself as an outspoken opponent of players kneeling during the national anthem.
Opinions on this video will likely mirror the anthem debate. The anti’s will say it’s much ado about nothing and manufactured racism. Protest supporters will say it’s further evidence of racism among the owners in the NFL. And so it continues.
