Nobody wants to be known as a choker come NCAA tournament time. University of New Orleans power forward Travin Thibodeaux cost his team their opening round play-in game against Mount St. Mary’s not because he choked on the floor, but because he choked his teammate off it.
Thibodeaux got into it with teammate Christavious Gill as the two headed to the bench after a time out was called with just over 6 minutes to go in the second half. After exchanging heated words, the confrontation turned physical.
After some pushing and shoving, Thibodeaux lost it and choked Gill until they were separated by coaching staff.
In a rare moment of principled decision making in sports, New Orleans head coach Mark Slessinger sat Thibodeaux for the remainder of the game. New Orleans ended up losing the game 67-66.
