There is an immeasurable void at this year’s Masters without the presence of four-time champ Arnold Palmer. The starters ceremony was his thing.
Today, the tournament kicked off the honorary starter ceremony without Arnie for the first time in a long time.
Masters chairman William Payne escorted Mrs. Palmer to the tee, where a chair was set up in her husband’s honor. Payne symbolically laid a green jacket on the chair.
A clearly emotional Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player stepped up and hit their drives to get the tournament underway and each paid respect to their friend.
It was a touching tribute to a Masters legend.
