The Arizona Wildcats are located in the heart of spring training country, and recently took advantage by paying homage to one of the best baseball movies of all time, 1989’s Major League.
The Wildcat players and coaches were cast as characters from the movie, and made an almost identical shot-of-shot remake of the scene from the movie where Ricky Vaughn, Willie Mays Hays and the other castoffs report to Hi Corbett Field for spring training to start their eventual march to the pennant.
The attention to detail is on-point with appropriate modifications to give it a Wildcat flavor.
Arizona is only ranked 15th in the preseason coaches poll, but don’t be shocked if they win the national title on a bunt by a feisty fifth-year senior senior catcher after he calls his shot.
Here’s the original scene from the movie, featuring a young Wesley Snipes and pre-tiger blood Charlie Sheen.
