Following a gut-wrenching loss to Canada in the Final of the World Junior Hockey Championships, Swedish team captain Lias Andersson wasn’t in the mood for souvenirs commemorating the defeat.
After receiving his silver medal in the postgame ceremony, Andersson took off the mark of second-place shame and tossed it to a fan in the stands. One man’s precious metal is another Swede’s trash. Some people will say this shows a lack of respect, but when you don’t give the losing team a second to cool off, things happen.
If you’re not first, you’re last. In Sweden, too.
