Newly acquired Clippers guard Patrick Beverley was never on the Lonzo Ball and LaVar Ball hype train, and made comments before the season that he was going to eat Lonzo alive when they finally met.
The NBA All-Defensive 1st teamer was true to his word, and helped ruin Ball’s NBA debut by teaching him an NBA life lesson.
Beverley physically overwhelmed Lonzo all-night, and sent an early message in the first quarter by taking him down with a hard foul in the back court and raising his hand. He immediately got back in Lonzo’s face and forced a turnover on the ensuing inbound.
This was like watching a teenager get whooped by his uncle in the backyard. Ball finished the night with an unimpressive 3 points on 1 of 6 shooting. He did have 4 assists and 9 rebounds.
This physical bullying by Beverly set the tone.
After the game, Beverley talked about beating up Lonzo, and said he better be ready every night, because there’s a line of NBA players out the door that want a piece of him.
