Kris Bryant took some time out from spring training for a TV shoot at his alma mater, Bonanza High School in Las Vegas. Bryant was told he was shooting some footage for what he thought was a TV piece on his preparation routine.
Bonanza also boasts another famous baseball alumnus, Hall of Famer Greg Maddux. Unbeknownst to Bryant, Maddux was also at the shoot, disguised as a frumpy, middle-aged sound guy.
During Bryant’s BP session, a coach who was in on the prank, pretended he had to take a break and take a call. That’s when “the sound guy” offered to step in and toss.
Bryant is initially taken aback by “the sound guy’s” mean uncle-charlie, and grows more confused after a couple of swinging strikes.
After the shoot, Maddux took of his fu-manchu for the big reveal. Bryant was a good sport about the punking, and comes off like a genuinely good dude.
Last year, Bryant was on the other side of a similar prank when he showed up to a college baseball practice as a “transfer”, and started launching 450 foot bombs.
