Kurt Warner hasn’t played in the NFL since 2009 and has already been inducted into the Pro football Hall of Fame, but apparently the former Super Bowl champ turned analyst still hasn’t completely kicked the comeback bug.
In an interview during yesterday’s St. Louis Cardinals game against the Twins, Warner dropped the surprising nugget that he actually had discussions with one NFL head coach about coming back to play THIS season. He didn’t specify which coach – there’s a new one in Oakland that would be suspect #1 – but said that things fell apart when the team in question signed another QB. Warner didn’t think the coach believed he was serious about returning, but he was all in for the right situation.
He says he thinks the door is closed now, but this sounds like it wasn’t that far off from becoming a reality and one of the cooler storylines of the upcoming NFL season.
