Game 5 of the NBA Finals at Oracle Arena will be crazy tonight, but it can’t touch what happened during the championship of the Greek Basketball League playoffs between Panathinaikos and Olympiacos yesterday.
With only a couple of minutes left in the game, and Panathinaikos leading comfortably, chaos erupted as firecrackers began exploding in the stands and Olympiacos fans fired flares onto the court.
How does the joke go? I went to a Greek basketball game and a soccer riot broke out.
Remarkably, the teams attempted to play through the explosions before being removed from the court. After a delay and the evacuation of all the fans, the two teams finished up the in front of an empty arena.
Panathinaikos won the game and the title 66-51. I’m guessing they didn’t stick around to pop champagne in the locker room.

Madness, pandemonium and insanity. Actually, this is just the norm for a road victory that ends an Olympiacos-Panathinaikos series. pic.twitter.com/izuPrxQrvA
