Indians Pitcher Trevor Bauer is known for his unconventional training techniques, like regularly warming up with 400-foot long toss, and other out of the box exercises to increase his arm strength.
Bauer’s offseason workout is equally unorthodox. A video posted yesterday shows the Cleveland starter doing a drill with with no other objective than to throw a baseball as hard as possible against a wall, outfitted with a radar gun. With a centerfielder run up, Bauer clocked in at an an obscene 116.9 MPH. How his arm is still attached to his body is anyone’s guess.
Before the “well actually” crowd chimes in by pointing out it wasn’t an official 116.9 because the gun is right at his release point which would account for the increased velocity, we are aware. It’s still freak show stuff.
