The Deflategate controversy involving Tom Brady will go down as the most drawn out, ridiculous, off-field controversy in the history of sports. The nearly two-year dilemma, revolving around deflated footballs in the 2015 AFC Championship game against the Colts, included federal court appeals that nearly reached the doorstep of the U.S. Supreme Court.
During the entire process Brady was deadly serious about defending himself against what he perceived to be an assault on his reputation. For “Tom Terrific”, it was not a laughing matter….until now.
Brady, who doesn’t do many commercials, just released one for an annual Foot Locker sale, the premise of which is two kids sitting down at a diner where Brady is seated, where they wonder aloud how the sale can be so great year after year. Something must be up.
Brady goes off on the two kids in an aggressively defensive manner, irrationally relating the kids’ suspicions to his own Deflategate controversy. He eventually angrily storms out of the diner.
Brady kills it and is absolutely hilarious. Props to Tom for poking fun at himself over the controversy. The spot works on every level.
