Scripps National Spelling Bee Co-champion Nihar Janga is an intense competitor. The 5th grader from Austin, Texas wears his emotions on his sleeve. He gets inside the opponents head. He’s not in the spelling bee to make friends, he’s there to win.
In last night’s final round, Nihar shook his head in disapproval as 7th grader Jairam Hathwar incorrectly spelled “Drahthaar”. When Jairam returned to his seat, Nihar let him know about it.
With everything on the line, Nahir correctly spelled “Gessellschaft” to secure his spot as co-champion. He threw up Dallas Cowboys star Dez Bryant’s trademark “X” sign to celebrate. Big players make big plays in big games.
Co-champ Jairam approached Nahir to congratulate him on a spelling be well spelled, but Nahir wasn’t having it.
Nahir’s new biggest fan, Dez Bryant, tweeted his congratulations.
