Yesterday afternoon, the Los Angeles Rams announced the firing of head coach Jeff Fisher, after a 4-9 start to the franchise’s inaugural season in Los Angeles. The Rams pulled the trigger on the Fisher firing following an embarrassing 42-14 home loss to Atlanta on Sunday, and postgame comments from franchise running back Todd Gurley that many on the team were mailing it in until the end of the season.
One city that doesn’t feel any sympathy for the Rams and their current dilemma is their former home of St. Louis. It’s no secret that the city feels the Rams were unfairly taken from them by owner Stan Kroenke. The prevailing sentiment is that Kroenke was always determined to move the team to L.A., a plan that was pre-approved by the NFL power structure. In reality, it’s all probably true. To make a long story short, they think they got jobbed.
The bitter feelings surfaced again yesterday, when Rams COO Kevin Demoff held a press conference to address the firing.
St. Louis based news station Fox2, didn’t hesitate to use the opportunity to take a dig at Demoff, using the graphic chyron at the bottom of the screen to do so. In the graphic they listed his title as “Rams Chief Operating Officer/Professional Liar.” Ouch.
Old feelings die hard, and apparently there’s no love lost in St. Louis for Demoff and the Rams. We’ll have to see what they pull next when the Rams announce the hiring of Jim Harbaugh.
