Tennessee needs to forget about Jon Gruden
Butch Jones is out at Tennessee and immediately following the announcement, rumors began swirling that Jon Gruden was a serious candidate for the job. Gruden’s name seems to surface every time there’s a major college opening, but Colin thinks that even though his name gets fans excited, it’s not gonna happen.
Gruden hasn’t coached in 9 years, and isn’t making much less as an analyst than he would taking a coaching gig. He also doesn’t have to deal with needy boosters and recruits 365 days a year. He’s even said publicly that he would be a walking recruiting violation if he did take over a program because of his inexperience with college compliance rules. It isn’t happening.
The obvious choice for Tennessee should be Dan Mullen, who has built Mississppi State, in the middle of nowhere, into a perennial SEC winner. If Mullen was given the resources of Tennessee he would have them back in contention for the next decade. Mullen isn’t the sexy choice, but he’s the right one. Forget about Gruden.
LeBron stopped his regular season coasting to teach the Knicks a lesson
The Cavs and LeBron have been sleep walking to start the NBA season, but last night James got fired up after a tag team assault by Enes Kanter and Frank Ntilikina, and provided a reminder that he’s still the best player in the game by angrily leading a 23-point comeback and a 43-point fourth quarter.
The performance reminded Colin of a vintage Jordan game, because LeBron manufactured a the trash talk with Kanter as a reason to engage. He proved that he’s trolling the NBA on a nightly basis during the regular season, because he’ saving his energy for the playoffs. He
He doesn’t flash his A game often when the games don’t matter, but he’s still got it when he needs it. The Knicks found that out last night.
