Nick Wright and Cris Carter in for Colin:
The Texans need to go all in for Romo, even if it means pulling a trade
The Texans shipped Brock Osweiler to the Browns for a 2nd round pick, thereby bailing on arguably the worst free agency signing in NFL history. The Osweiler trade frees up the space for Houston to pursue Tony Romo, and Nick thinks the Texans need to go all-in to get him.
He believes that whichever team signs Romo between, assuming it’s either the Broncos and Texans is instantly the favorite to challenge the Patriots in the AFC. People may question Romo’s health, but it’s impossible to question his performance when he’s on the field. If Healthy, Nick thinks Romo is the 2nd best quarterback in the AFC. The statistics bear that out.
Even if the Texans need to make a trade so they don’t get left at the altar in free agency, Nick thinks it’s worth it so they don’t go one more season with a stacked team, but no quarterback to make a deep playoff run.
Cris thinks the Texans are the best fit for Romo, but they shouldn’t make a trade because of negative salary cap implications. If they wait until Romo’s released, they can negotiate a more team-friendly contract. They can’t afford to get into another bad contract like they did with Osweiler.
Should the Warriors have traded for Kevin Durant?
The Warriors are struggling, including taking a bad loss on Wednesday against the Celtics. Kevin Durant’s absence in the lineup is exposing the Warriors’ lack of depth, which they let go in order to sign Durant, and Steph Curry isn’t able to carry a team right now.
The Dubs were a force of nature, and this year they’ve lost their swag. Nick thinks that if Golden State could do it over, they wouldn’t sign KD.
Cris thinks last year’s team was more versatile than this year’s. Even though they played up tempo, they could play a variety of styles, and their bench could contribute to win games. He believes they could still end up winning several championships with Durant, but the overall team will never be equal to the total team the Warriors had last year.
