LeBron James and the rest of Cleveland’s Big 3 taking the night off against Memphis last night caused a media hissy fit, and debate about whether stars have an obligation to play away games if they’re healthy. What about the children?
Colin isn’t buying the outrage, and doesn’t understand all the fuss in Memphis. The Grizzlies are a playoff bubble team and were basically handed a free win. What’s not to like if you’re a Grizzlies fan? From the NBA’s perspective, LeBron being healthy for another Finals run is far more valuable to the league. The kids will be fine.
“That could be the game that gets you home-court advantage in the playoffs, and you’re complaining about it? You should send LeBron a thank you note.”
Colin thinks the NBA has been diluted from expansion, and thinks the owners’ greed to continually expand has put teams in cities that shouldn’t have them, and where players with options don’t want to play.
Today, Colin proposed a plan to that would eliminate small market NBA teams and condense the league to 14 teams, across all the major cities. It would increase the quality of basketball, and teams would have more good players. For the NBA, less would be more.
“Everybody complains about all these players. The owners created this. Getting expansion fees in all these leagues to create the Jacksonvilles, the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Vancouver Grizzlies. There was no big want for that. People weren’t demanding that.”
In a Boston radio appearance, Tom Brady said he wants to play until he’s 45. Colin says it’s obvious that Brady’s comments were intended for Bill Belichick and Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Brady clearly wants the organization to ship Jimmy Garoppolo out of town for draft picks. He clearly thinks he can still be the man in New England.
“You know who he was talking to there. Robert Kraft, Bill Belichick. He was saying, ‘Trade Garoppolo for five draft picks.’”
