James Harden is a better player than Russell Westbrook
James Harden led the Rockets to an easy win in their playoff opener over Russell Westbrook and the Thunder. Colin thought it was obvious from watching the two MVP candidates play that Harden is the better player.
Colin doesn’t blame Westbrook for the loss, and he completely understands how his fans are in awe of his jaw dropping athletic ability. However, Harden is a better shooter, a more willing passer, and an equal scorer. The only thing Westbrook does better is rebound, which is largely irrelevant for point guards. Give Colin Harden over Westbrook.
“Harden’s the better player”
The Celtics should have traded for Jimmy Butler
The Celtics lost Game 1 of their first round playoff matchup against the Bulls yesterday, and Colin thought Chicago star Jimmy Butler was, hands down, the best player on either team.
The Celtics have one star in Isaiah Thomas, but the rest of the roster is a collection of “nice” players. Boston has been loaded down with draft picks and cap space for several years now, but have been unable to parlay the picks into anything resembling a star. Even though they’re a #1 seed in the East, no one thinks they can unseat the Cavs.
At this year’s trade deadline, the Celtics were rumored to be closing in on Butler, or Paul George, but couldn’t finalize a deal.
Instead, Boston is in the fourth year of a rebuild, has a roster full of B players, a bunch of draft picks, and they’re not going anywhere.
“Four Jae Crowders are not worth a Jimmy Butler. Get players.”
The star doesn’t always have to take the last shot
Paul George didn’t take the last shot in the Pacers Game 1 loss to the Cavs. After the game, he essentially threw his teammate, CJ Watson, under the bus for taking the shot and said he should always take the last shot for Indiana.
Colin thinks this is one of the dumbest, most disproven myths in sports. The star doesn’t always have to take the last shot, especially if it’s not the right basketball play. Saying someone should take the final shot just because they’re “the guy” is what dumb guys say at a bar. Make the right play, it’s what MJ did when he started winning titles.
“Michael didn’t always take the shot. Magic didn’t always take the shot.”
