Doug Gottlieb in for Colin:
Cavs have deals confirm they lost the Kyrie Irving trade
The Cavs turned over most of their aging, listless roster with a series of trade deadline deals, including shipping Isaiah Thomas to the Lakers. Gottlieb thinks the Cavs upgraded their roster, but with Thomas and Jae Crowder now gone, they have nothing left to show for their Kyrie Irving trade with Boston other than the Nets first round pick.
Some argued the Cavs got a good haul for Irving, but after today it’s impossible to argue that Boston didn’t win the deal.
Jimmy G worth every penny of biggest NFL contract ever
After acquiring Jimmy Garoppolo in a midseason trade with the Patriots, the Niners finished the season as the hottest team in the NFL, and today inked Jimmy G to to an NFL record 5-year $137 million contract.
Even though Garoppolo doesn’t have a long NFL resume, Doug has seen enough to believe he’s worth every penny of the record contract. The price tag for franchise QB’s is always going up and John Lynch was smart to lock up the face of the franchise, even if it meant overpaying a little.
