The debate over court storming has been heavily litigated over the last handful of years. Supporters of the practice say it’s the height of college student fun, and those that oppose it are cranky, fun-hating puritans that don’t know how to have a good time.
The Anti-court storming crowd has taken some lumps, but the students at St. Bonaventure gave their cause some solid ammunition at the end of the Bonnies’ A-10 match up against VCU.
After Bonnies Junior guard Matt Mobley hit a go-ahead three with .4 seconds left in the game to give the Bonnies a 66-65 lead, the student section stormed the court to celebrate.
Apparently, none of the Bonaventure students are taking Basketball Rules 101.
Their team was hit with a delay of game technical for the court storming with time left on the clock. VCU hit the game-tying free throw to force overtime and won the bizarre contest 83-77 in the extra period.
Fans don’t usually have as much impact on sporting contests as they think they do, but you can pin the L on them for this.
Major buzzkill, bro.
Here’s a view of the chaos unfolding from the crowd.
