Former Steelers linebacker and current assistant coach Joey Porter was cleared by the team to coach this weekend following his arrest for an alleged altercation outside of a Pittsburgh bar following last weekend’s playoff game against the Dolphins.
Porter was placed on leave by the team following the arrest, and many speculated that he would be fired or face further discipline from the team. He was initially charged with assault, but yesterday it was announced by the Allegheny County District Attorney’s office that those charges would be dropped. Porter still faces public drunkenness and disorderly conduct charges.
The team released a statement regarding the decision to reinstate Porter for Sundays’ Divisional Round playoff game in Kansas City.
