23-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps can swim like a fish, and now he’s going to to race a great white shark.
That’s not a typo, The Discovery Channel has just issued a press release announcing the inter-special swimming super race, set for July 23:
They are one of the fastest and most efficient predators on the planet: Sharks. He is our greatest champion to ever get in the water: Michael Phelps. 39 world records.
23 Olympic golds. But he has one competition left to win. An event so monumental no one has ever attempted it before. The world’s most decorated athlete takes on the ocean’s most efficient predator: Phelps V Shark – the race is on!
It’s still unclear how they plan to pull this off logistically. Obviously they aren’t going to let the shark in a pool with Phelps, separated only by lane ropes. That could have a worse outcome than Ryan Lochte at a Rio gas station at 3 AM.
Phelps vs. Shark. July 23. Two will enter, hopefully two will leave. It will probably be better than Mayweather/McGregor.
