UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor is taking his talents to Westeros.
UFC President Dana White confirmed that McGregor has been cast in a small role in the massively popular HBO series Game of Thrones in a recent appearance on Fox Sports Live.
In the interview, White said, “I knew that a few months ago that they were interested in putting him in the show. And I’m glad he did it. It’ll be great. Yeah, the show’s huge, it’s awesome and I’m excited for him.”
The Game of Thrones website Watchers on the Wall is reporting that McGregor is cast in a small villain role as a member of Euron Greyjoy’s crew on the ship ‘Silence.’ He won’t have any lines, because, per the storyline, all the members of the crew have had their tongue’s removed. It will certainly be a departure for McGregor, who is as famous for his mouth as he is for his exploits in the octagon.
McGregor’s friendship with Icelandic strongman Hafpor Julius Bjornsson, who plays The Mountain on the show, may have contributed to him landing the role.
Here’s a video of the two friends sparring.
Concerned UFC fans can rest easy. It’s just a bit part. It doesn’t look like the reigning lightweight champ will be getting a shot at the Iron Throne anytime soon.
